FAQ

The Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi Humanitarian Foundation (KSQF), established in July 2024 in Sharjah, UAE, is a global, independent organization dedicated to protecting and empowering children in vulnerable situations. We work to prevent exploitation, child labour, and trafficking, especially among children affected by conflict, disasters, or poverty.

The Foundation was established in honor of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi. It embodies his vision of a safer world for children, particularly in the Global South. It is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

We envision a world where children’s fundamental rights are upheld, their well-being is safeguarded, and their future is secure. Our mission is to bridge critical gaps in child protection and development through impactful programs and strategic partnerships, ensuring sustainable, positive change.

KSQF focuses on addressing the needs of children in conflict zones, poverty-stricken communities, and areas affected by natural disasters. The Foundation’s strategic plan focuses on regions including Latin America, East Africa, Southwest Asia, North Africa, and South Asia, with the goal of ensuring children’s safety and well-being.

Our work is guided by three core pillars, which are embedded across all our programs and partnerships to create a meaningful, lasting impact:

  • Safeguarding: Protecting children from harm and promoting their best interests through a comprehensive ecosystem-based approach that addresses diverse needs.
  • Advocacy: Raising awareness, influencing policy decisions, and amplifying children’s voices to ensure their essential needs, such as identity, education, healthcare and emotional well-being, are being met.
  • Capacity Building: Equipping communities and organizations with the knowledge, skills, and resources to sustainably protect children.

The Foundation is dedicated to supporting children affected by conflict, natural disasters, and poverty in developing countries around the world. While we do not operate programs within the United Arab Emirates, we deeply acknowledge and commend the UAE government’s efforts  to protect and safeguard children.  The Foundation reinforces the UAE’s unwavering commitment to creating a safer, more secure environment for all vulnerable populations.

The Foundation has active programming in Mexico, and Zanzibar, Tanzania, with plans for further expansion in other regions, including in East Africa, South Asia, Southwest Asia and North Africa, prioritizing the unique challenges and needs of children in these regions.

The Foundation selects countries through a rigorous, research-informed process that includes consultations with local stakeholders to ensure relevance and long-term impact. Key criteria include a government’s willingness, commitment, and capacity to implement and sustain systemic change for children.

We prioritize contexts where there is a clear opportunity to drive meaningful reform in alignment with international child protection standards, such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our decisions are further guided by data and insights from credible international bodies, ensuring our efforts align with global best practices and respond to the most pressing needs.

The Foundation focuses on sustainable child protection programs and community support initiatives only through a grant making model working with international humanitarian and development organizations, as well as local grassroot organizations.  The Foundation does not provide direct financial support to individuals.

Grant applications are by invitation only or must be submitted in response to a specific Request for Proposal (RFP) issued by the organization.

Our grant application process is currently by invitation only. When we invite an organization to apply, we begin by working together to align on the grant size, the issue to be addressed, and how the proposed work connects to the Foundation’s objectives.

We maintain close communication throughout the process, providing clear guidance on each step – from understanding  how the process works and expected timelines to the decision-making stages and what to anticipate along the way.

We also discuss the potential for renewal well before the end of the grant term, with the understanding that all renewals are reviewed as new, separate applications.

We begin with an informal conversation to learn more about your work and explore alignment.
  • Concept Note & Summary Submission

  • Application Review
    Your application is reviewed internally.
  • Recommendation & Decision
We finalize a recommendation and bring it forward to the Board for approval. (timeline: Up to 30 business days).

Collaboration is central to how we measure impact. We work closely with implementing partners to co-create solutions that are grounded in locally driven needs assessments, ensuring our interventions are relevant, sustainable, and responsive to community priorities.

To ensure accountability and effectiveness, we work with our partners to assess progress against globally recognized benchmarks, including the Sustainable Development Goals, and refine our work based on ongoing feedback and data.

KSQF focuses on achieving goals under three UN SDGs:

  • Target 8.7: End Modern Slavery, Trafficking & Child Labour
We align our efforts with SDG Target 8.7, which calls for the eradication of forced labour and the worst forms of child labour. Our strategy centres on prevention and protection by investing in child protection systems, essential infrastructure, and sustainable livelihoods, while strengthening legal frameworks and their enforcement.
  • Target 16.2: Protect Children from Abuse, Exploitation, Trafficking & Violence
We confront the grave realities of child trafficking, sexual exploitation, and violence through targeted interventions aligned with SDG Target 16.2. Our efforts prioritize prevention through awareness-raising, strengthening protective environments, and supporting victims and survivors.
  • Target 5.3: Eliminate Forced Marriages and Genital Mutilation
We align our efforts with SDG Target 5.3, which calls for the elimination of all harmful practices, including child marriage. Our prevention-focused work strengthens child protection systems, expands access to education, provides economic alternatives, and raises community awareness—while engaging families, elders, religious figures, and leaders to drive change.

KSQF is funded through various channels including seed funding, a program-specific fund, individual giving, and corporate giving. We are grateful to our supporters who join us in our mission to protect and empower children in vulnerable situations by ensuring their fundamental rights are upheld.
