Strengthening local child protection systems
Strengthening child protection mechanisms in rural Morocco
Our Project in Morocco
In Morocco’s rural Sous Massa region, over 85% of the 110,000 child labourers work in hazardous conditions, and high level of school dropout rates. In addition to labour exploitation and high school dropout rates, children are faced with violence and a lack of legal identity, with few accessible prevention or response services. This project builds a coordinated, community-rooted model of child protection that can be scaled to other regions.

Key Objectives
- Mobile Outreach & Direct Services: Operating two mobile units to conduct family assessments, deliver immediate support, and refer identified at-risk children to the Taroudant Child Protection Unit (CPU) for case management, psychosocial support, and legal aid.
- Strengthening National Systems: Training frontline government workers and providing technical support to five CPUs across Morocco to adopt coordinated, inter-agency approaches, building a stronger national safety net.
- Community Mobilization & Awareness: Leading awareness campaigns in schools and communities to shift harmful norms around child labour and violence, and engaging parents and local associations.
- Legal Identity & Reintegration: Providing critical support for birth registration to secure children’s legal rights and working on school reintegration to combat high dropout rates.
- Data-Driven Advocacy: Conducting focus groups and research to generate evidence for policy briefs and a national conference, advocating for systemic change based on data.
