Expanding support services for survivors of violence
Restoring Justice and Safety for Survivors
Our Project in Zanzibar
One in 10 boys and one in 20 girls in Zanzibar experience sexual violence before adulthood. Our vision is to break cycles of abuse and empower survivors in Zanzibar. We do this by enhancing access to timely, high-quality support services through one-stop centres and by strengthening local GBV response systems.

Key Objectives
- Integrated Legal Aid: Establishing and operationalising legal aid desks at the Jitimahi Hospital (Unguja) and Abdalah Mzee Hospital (Pemba) for the first time.
- Systemic Change: Developing and piloting a unified Data Management System to connect all 12 One Stop Centres in Zanzibar, improving case management and coordination.
- Community Empowerment: Training community responders and running monthly outreach campaigns to break the stigma around reporting GBV and inform communities of their rights and available services.
- Capacity Building: Training OSC personnel on handling GBV cases, including specialized care for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
